In remembrance of Barbara Ohrt

The co‑founder of the Bavarian Development Study (BEST), Dr.med. Barbara Ohrt, passed away peacefully and without pain at her home on 8June 2026 at the age of 92.

At the Ludwig Maximilian University Children’s Hospital, Dr.Barbara Ohrt established the field of developmental neurology and led a teamfor follow‑up care, diagnostics, and early intervention for children in the so‑called“Garden House.”

Together with Prof. Klaus Riegel (d. 2018), she launched theBavarian Longitudinal Study in 1984 and developed and led the detailedneurological assessments for the first study phase (birth to 4 years).

I had the good fortune to lead the second phase of BESTtogether with Dr. Ohrt and Klaus Riegel. My thoughts are with her family.
